Dear 6th Grade Students and Parents,

As you are getting ready to enter 7th grade, I want to give you information about the Windsor Central School District Athletic Program. Many of you know that interscholastic athletics begin in 7th grade in New York State. You will soon have the opportunity to sign up for modified athletic teams.

New York State Regulations require medical clearance by the School Physician prior to any student participation in sports practice or competition. In order for your child to participate in any school sports activity, you will need to complete a Health History Form AND your child will need to be examined by the school physician to determine any special precautions that may be required to ensure his/her safety during athletic activities.

The School Nurse will schedule a sports physical for your child during school hours prior to beginning of the athletic season. Clearance by the School Physician to participate in athletic programs is good for one calendar year, unless the child is injured or has an illness which lasts more than five days. Following an injury or illness that disrupts participation, the child will need clearance through the School Health Office. While routine grade level physicals may be done by your child’s private physician, sports clearance must be performed by the School Physician per state regulations. The School Physician, therefore, will NOT “sign-off” on physicals done by other physicians for your child to participate in athletics.

Physicals are provided to the student athletes at no charge providing the student athlete is examined during the school hours on the designated physical dates. A list of physical dates may be found on our web site at www.windsorad.org
(click on Sports Physicals under the Information link on the navigation bar). Students should stop in to see Mrs. Pellegrino for an appointment and pre-screening information. Any students that do not receive physicals on the given dates will have to schedule a sports physical at the office of the School Physician at their own expense.

The Health History form may not be submitted until 30 days prior to the season start date. Students participating in fall athletics will receive the Health History form in the mail from the coach. Students participating in winter and spring athletics will receive the Health History from the coach during sign up meetings.

For your planning, I am listing the athletic teams open to 7th and 8th graders. I hope you are able to find one or more that you would like to try.
