Dear Parent or Guardian,

One of our students needs our help.  Riley Segrue is an 8th grade student who suffers from Dystonia, a neurological disorder that causes his muscles to contract and spasm involuntarily. Dystonia is a genetic condition, and both Riley's sister and cousin are also afflicted. Riley served as the pioneer in his family by undergoing brain surgery to assist with this disorder, however he has suffered complications. At present medical bills have begun to increase and the time has come for the school community to rally around Riley and his family.

On Saturday May 17th, we are hosting the Riley Segrue Family Benefit at the Windsor High School, from noon until 4 PM.  Our middle school advisory groups will assist in the preparation of this event by making posters to advertise this important fund raising effort.  The benefit will include a spaghetti dinner, kids activities and an auction of theme baskets.  We are asking students, by grade level, to donate items for these baskets if they wish to do so.  The themes are as follows:

Sixth grade teams: Picnic/Beach Basket
Sunscreen, Frisbees , Nerf balls, towels, sand toys like buckets or shovels, goggles, kites, plastic balls, jump ropes, sidewalk chalk, tablecloths, catsup, mustard, plastic ware, colorful cups, paper plates, etc.
Seventh grade team: School Supplies Basket
Pens, pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners, paper, Post-it notes, children’s  or young adult books, coloring books, pocket dictionaries, rulers, protractors, small journals, , gift cards for office supply stores, etc.
Split 7/8 team: Family Fun Night Basket
Popcorn packets, small boxes of candy, movie passes for local theaters, DVDs rated G or PG, decks of cards (UNO, animal rummy, Phase-10, Skipboe), sets of dominoes, jigsaw puzzles, board games, etc.
Eighth grade team: Arts and Crafts Basket
Colored pencils, crayons, small sketchbooks, stickers, stamps and ink pads, construction paper, child-friendly scissors, Play-dough, Sculpey, beads or boondoggle supplies, scratch art, finger paints, etc.

Students should bring in donated items to their advisory by Friday, May 9, to allow staff and volunteers to make up the baskets before the benefit.

Included in this mailing is a flyer about the benefit and a walk that middle school students can participate in.  If there are any questions, please feel free to contact the middle school main office at 655-8247.

Sincerely,

Andrew Fiorentino
