Pichura, Sue Odell, and Chris Wentzell.

Request for teacher stipend from Librarian Terry Brandt.
Email from the Bell PTO inviting parents and teachers to their meeting on
November 15th to hear Mr. Andrews speak on the technology upgrades.
Secretary’s Report: Read by Angela Wallace, minutes accepted as read.
Treasurer’s Report: Read by Joanne Perry. A beginning balance reported of $28,952.52 with
withdrawals of $302.90 and deposits of $7,827.36 giving an ending balance of
$36,476.98. A detailed report is available on request. Report accepted as read.
Principal’s Report: Given by Andy Fiorentino. Apologies were given again regarding the Enjoy the
City fundraiser problems.
Representatives from Chenango Valley visited the school to learn about our
advisory program. Advisories are going well. The staff has worked hard to ensure
more consistency .
The first golden ticket club was held, a showing of Apollo 13 with popcorn. During
the movie, those students who did not receive awards were given remediation in
areas that may have prevented them from achieving a golden ticket.
On October 23, a building wide, K-8 “launch party” was held to watch the launch
of the Space Shuttle. Channel 12 news attended and did a news story. The entire
event was well received and gave a great message to the kids about achieving their
goals. Statistically a person has a better chance of winning the lottery than doing a
space walk, and this was used to teach the kids that your dreams CAN come true if
you work hard enough for them.
November 9th is a half day, with a K-12 data huddle for the teachers. They will use
this time to evaluate the benchmark testing scores.
Mr. Andrews has committed to upgrade the technology for the school district. By
the end of the year, all classes will have a smart board. The teachers have begun
receiving Sentio training, which is an add on to the smart boards.
The 8th grade chorus went to WSKG to record a performance that will be aired
between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
First quarter ends tomorrow, with report cards going home on November 16th.
A new feature has been added to the Parent Access on E-School. Parents can now
view the discipline record of their students as well as grades and attendance.
Winter sports have begun.
The first parents meeting for the 8th grade trip was held, as well as the first deposit
installments collected.
Mr. Grace’s canoe has been set up in the cafeteria for the food drive and food has
begun to be put into it.
The 2nd group of students was taken to the High Ropes course. Mr. Fiorentino
expressed that when he first heard about this course he was not really a big fan, but
after experiencing it with the students, he feels it is an excellent exercise in support
and encouragement for the students.
The Time Out room has noticed a decline in students attending. Chris Nagle keeps
detailed statistics which show that from 2004 to present the counts are as follows:
Sept. 2004: 150 visits Sept. 2007: 54 visits
Oct. 2004: 350 visits Oct. 2007: 117 visits
This is attributed to the various new programs and policies that have been put into
place such as advisory, golden ticket club and peer intervention.
Old Business: Enjoy the City update: $50 gift cards for top winners will be handed out next week.
We had approximately a $6500 profit.
Gertrude Hawk update: Susan Behn will speak about this at the December meeting.
Java Joes update: Angela reported that this is up and running with all fundraisers
going home with the students. The sale is scheduled to end November 16th with
delivery during the week of December 3rd.
Spirit Wear update: Connie Kamp reported that she has been discussing with the
elementary schools about having some items such as umbrellas, water bottles, gym
bags, etc. that have the same logo available for orders. It was discussed that this
would be a great idea. Pattie made a motion for Connie Kamp to be the coordinator
for this, Carol Sabatine seconded and a unanimous vote carried this motion.
New Business: Binghamton University has sent information regarding a program called “Girls
Take Charge” . Jocelyn Thorton will be a guest speaker during the December
PATS meeting to give further information on the one day leadership conference for
girls in grades 7-12. The conference will be held on Saturday, February 16th from
10-5 at the downtown BU learning center. The cost is $50 per participant and space
is limited.
An idea regarding workshops for parents on dealing with different issues their
middle school students may be encountering was discussed. Some topics discussed
were eating disorders and how parents can recognize the signs and internet safety
concerns from a parents point of view.
