Dear eighth grade parent/guardian,
As your child embarks on their third and final year in the middle school they look forward to many special occasions designed to make their middle school experience a memorable time in their life. With the ROPES trip and the Teen Summit behind us everyone is now beginning to look forward to the Eighth Grade Class Trip to Washington D.C. This is an overnight trip to our nation’s capitol which includes one day at Six Flags Great Adventure in Maryland followed by a second day touring the national monuments and museums in Washington D.C.
This trip is scheduled for Monday, June 8th through Tuesday, June 9th. Although this date seems far off we need to begin implementing the process. An informational meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 18th, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the Middle School Auditorium. The purpose of this meeting is to present the preliminary details and answer questions so parents can be informed before committing to this trip.
The cost of the trip will be approximately $240-$250 per student. This fee includes transportation, over night accommodations, entrance to Six Flags, meals and trip t-shirts. Students have already had an opportunity to participate in the first fundraiser through Home Interior Candle Sales and will have an opportunity to participate in the Spring fundraiser through MS PATS for the Gertrude Hawk Candy Sale. In addition, students will be able to earn additional money for their field trip by working at the Faculty Basketball Game and the Student Dodge Ball Tournament. Dates and details will be forthcoming.
Due to the cost of the trip, a payment schedule has been established with an initial payment of $40.00 due on December 1st. All fundraising efforts in conjunction with personal payments will be calculated for each individual. Please keep in mind that payments and fundraising should be done with the understanding that this is a merit based trip. Ultimately, behavior and academic standing will determine a student’s passage to Washington D.C.
We appreciate your continued support and look forward to another successful year. If you have any questions and concerns that you would like to address prior to the meeting on November 18th, please feel free to contact me at (607) 655-8267. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you next week.
Sincerely,
Kristin L. Beriman Chris Grace
